About us

Melghat Development Society is a non profit, voluntary and registered organization established in the year 1997. It is been founded by handful of volunteers under the leadership of the its visionary and founder Director Rev. Dr. John Maliekal.

Dr. John Maliekal had acquired his double doctorate in law from Canada and sharpened his skills in various organizations in European and American continents, before identified his passion to work with the tribals of Melghat. He has dedicated his life for the service of poor and marginalized Korku tribals of Melghat over last 30 years.

Ms. Cyrila Azavedo, is the founder Secretary of the MDS and renowned        for her rich experience to work with the tribal children of the Melghat. Studied in India and trained in abroad, she has started her career as a teacher and later proven her skills as a educationalist. She always strives to provide a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning for the children and staff.

The MDS is located at Gadanki village, in Paratwada in Melghat tribal belt comes under Amaravati District of Maharastra. It is 200kms away from Nagpur and 5kms from Amravati district head quarters.
